Dubrovnik and last day in Croatia

Wednesday May 28

We conquered the wall in 60 minutes and even had a coffee Americano. We are speedy tourists lol. It was cool when we started at 8 am and warm at 9 when we finished.

It’s quite spectacular to be up on the wall and get a view of the entire old city.

They maintain the wall and there seems to be ongoing construction/refurbishing in many areas.

We had a small break before we ventured on a kayak group tour. It was a very big group. It was choppy and windy but still a lot of fun. We headed towards Lokrum island where I thought we were stopping but we didn’t. Then we went to Betina cave beach which was so pretty with beautiful water.  We docked the kayaks and hung out for about 30 mins. They had masks and snorkels. I felt more comfortable keeping my life jacket on.  I saw little fish with a black dot.  We rowed back to our staring point along the wall through some very big waves.

After our tour we quickly showered and went to grab lunch to the same place we went yesterday lol and had some fried sardines which were so good.

Next up was our GOT tour. We started at the landing where we launched our kayaks this morning. Many scenes were shot here. Then we walked up to the Lovrijenac Fortress, a very old medieval military fortress, more scenes. The views from here of the wall are awesome.

Next, we walked into the Old Town.  Sadly we can’t remember a lot of the scenes even though we watched 3 times. Someone on the tour watched 10x.

We ended with a photo of each of us in the iron throne at a shop.
As we were walking towards the water after our tour, we spotted a statue of a man with his nose rubbed. We assumed we had to do it for good luck. Monkey see monkey do. This is my research lol:

We spotted another cool bar on the rocks by the wall this morning when we were on the wall. We found it and had a drink. This time no jumpers bc the water was super rough from the strong winds.

We had a quick sandwich and ready to rejuvenate to drive back to Bosnia tomorrow just for one night.

We LOVE Croatia. The people are so nice and welcoming. Until next time…

“Lokrum Island of Kings and Legends

According to legend, Richard the Lion-heart shipwrecked in 1192 after returning home from the crusades and found himself cast ashore, safe on island, and he pledged to build a church on the island indebted for the salvation but at the plea of Dubrovnik citizens, the church was not built on island but in The City instead. That church is still there waiting for your visit. Benedictine monks established an abbey and monastery on it. The monks were evicted in 1808 after the French took possession of the island, but before they left, they put a curse on the island: they circled the island in a mysterious procession, clutching lit candles turned upside down. Leaving a trail of wax, they chanted the horrifying words “Whosoever claims Lokrum for his own personal pleasure shall be damned!” Even nowadays nobody owns Lokrum.”

“The Blessing of the Throats is a sacramental within the Roman Catholic Church, typically performed on February 3rd, the feast day of Saint Blaise, to invoke his intercession for healing from throat ailments. A priest blesses individuals with two candles, holding them in a cross shape against their throat while reciting a specific prayer. The prayer asks God to deliver the person from any throat illness and other ailments, relying on St. Blaise’s intercession.”

I found this about the many churches.
