Verona Day Two
Verona was quite a bit of good down time. We did another load of laundry before we headed out today lol.
We headed to the Torre dei Lamberti and walked up to the top and we had a 360 view of Verona.
Built in 1172 at the from the Lamberti family, a powerful family who was banished from the city and became subsequently extinct. It was damaged and collapsed when it was hit by lightning in 1403 then rebuilt 1448-1463.
Next up we decided to eat fresh bread and cheese for lunch and found some delish bread at Impasti along with some amazing cookies called SBRISOLOTTO that is a spinoff from the typical cake of this region called SBRISOLONA.
We got some meat cheese and olives for our bread and had a great lunch.
We then got some Amarone wine to try and but never made it to the park to try it because souvenir shopping consumed us bc we had to mail extras home from the post office. That actually took a very long time. I got some Bialetti espresso cups that I can only get in Italy. The two women were so nice and found me a box and help me pack it up and tape it so that we could ship it ourselves since they do not ship to the United States.
We got back to our place to grab our umbrella due to the thunderstorm forecast and we walked back across the old Roman Bridge, Ponte Pietra to head up towards the castle of they also have a funicular, but we seem to want to punish ourselves by always walking up big hills and towers lol. We had an Aperol spritz at the top and admired the beautiful view of Verona from across the Adige River, the Ponte Pietra and the Roman theatre. We had an early dinner and headed back to our place to get ready to leave to meet our cousins in Mestrino for the next few days. We go back to the train station this morning and this time we do not have tickets so it should be an interesting morning!
